2.2. The general information
THE GENERAL DATA

On cars PASSAT are established four - five- and six-cylinder engines. On четырехцилидровых engines cylinders are located in one plane, and on six-cylinder engines cylinders are located in two planes, at an angle 90 to each other (6V). Cooling of engines is made by a cooling liquid. Engines settle down in a motor compartment along a car axis.

The block of cylinders is made of grey pig-iron in which material непосредствен but engine cylinders are made. The head of the block of cylinders is made of an easy alloy and bolts fastens to the block of cylinders. In a head of the block of cylinders запрессованы steel directing and saddles of valves. To the bottom part of the block of cylinders of the engine the oil pallet in which flows down the oil necessary for greasing and cooling of the engine fastens.

In petrol engines the scheme of a cross-section stream at which fuel-air the mix arrives in engine cylinders on the one hand the engine is used, and exhaust gases leave on the other hand the engine. At such design of the engine filling of cylinders fuel-cart a stuffy mix and removal of products of combustion considerably improves. On diesel engines for economy of a place inlet and final collectors are located on the one hand heads of the block of cylinders.

The petrol engine 1,6-I and the diesel engine 1,9-I

The camshaft is established in a head of the block of cylinders and put in action by a gear belt from a pulley of a cranked shaft. Management of the inlet and final valves established vertically, is made by camshaft cams through hydraulic pushers. For fuel giving in cylinders of the diesel engine the fuel pump of a high pressure fixed on the block of cylinders and put in action by a gear belt is used.

The engine 1,8-I

In this engine on each cylinder it is established on five valves – 3 inlet and 2 final. The drive of valves is carried out by two camshafts. One camshaft operates inlet valves, and other camshaft – final. The drive of the camshaft operating final valves, is carried out by a gear belt from a pulley of a cranked shaft.

The drive of the camshaft operating inlet valves, is carried out by a chain from a camshaft operating final valves. The increase in quantity of valves at the cylinder considerably improves filling of the cylinder fuel-air a mix and removal of products of combustion.

The engine 2,3-I (VR5)

In engine VR5 five cylinders are located in two planes at an angle 15 in one block of cylinders. Two camshafts, established in a head of the block of cylinders are put in action by a chain. In each cylinder it is established on one inlet and final valve.

The engine 2,8-I (6V)

On each cylinder are established on three inlet and two final valves. On each section of the block of the cylinder the separate head of the block of cylinders with two camshafts is established. One distribute тельный a shaft another operates inlet valves, and final. The drive of the camshafts operating final valves, is carried out by one gear belt. The drive of the camshafts operating inlet valves, is carried out from the camshafts operating final valves.

All engines

Adjustment клапанных backlashes is made automatically with use of hydraulic pushers and manual adjustment is not required.

For oil giving to rubbing surfaces of the engine the oil pump which in four- and five-cylinder engines is located in the oil pallet is used and its drive is carried out by intermediate shaft. On six-cylinder engines the oil pump is located in a forward cover of a cranked shaft and its drive is carried out directly from a cranked shaft. Under pressure oil moves to channels to bearings of cranked and distributive shaft.

The water pump on four- and five-cylinder engines fastens sideways the block of cylinders of the engine. The drive of the water pump is made клиновым or поликлиновым by an auxiliary belt which also puts in action the generator, the pump of the amplifier of a steering and the conditioner compressor. On the six-cylinder engine the water pump is located in a forward part of the engine and put in action by a gear belt. Keep in mind that systems of cooling of the engine should be filled all year long by a mix of antifreeze and water with the low maintenance to exhaust.

Preparation and ignition in cylinders of the engine mix fuel-air is carried out by a control system of the engine which does not demand adjustments. The corner of an advancing of ignition and idling turns are regulated by a control system of the engine. In the course of maintenance service carrying out it is necessary to make replacement of spark plugs and filtering element of the air filter.


The prevention

The radiator fan can join after engine and ignition deenergizing, therefore at work on the hot engine be careful. That the radiator fan has not joined, disconnect from the engine of the fan of a radiator an electric socket.
