THE GENERAL DATA

Forward inflatable pillows of safety

The system of forward inflatable pillows together with three-dot seat belts gives дополнитель ную protection of a head and the top part of a body of the driver and the passenger on forward sitting in case of serious face-to-face collisions.

The prevention

The maximum protective action of seat belts and inflatable pillows is reached only at correct adjustment of seats.

The system of forward inflatable pillows of safety does not work at:

 – Lateral blows,
 – Blows in a back part of the car,
 – Overturning,
 – Weak face-to-face blows.

The system of inflatable pillows of safety at all is not replacement to seat belts, and represents an essential component of the general concept of passive safety of the car. Please, remember that the greatest efficiency of action of inflatable pillows of safety is reached only at joint action with the put on seat belts.

The system of inflatable pillows of safety consists of following basic knots and details:

 – An electronic control mean system and the control of functional readiness of system (the management block);
 – Two inflatable pillows of safety (air bags with газогенератором) for:
   • the driver (in a steering wheel),
   • the forward passenger (in the panel of devices);
 – A control lamp on a combination of devices.

Functional readiness of system of inflatable pillows is supervised by the electronic device.

 – At ignition inclusion the control lamp does not light up,

 – During movement the control lamp is shone or flickers.

The prevention

When infringement of functional readiness of system is noted, it is necessary to check up necessarily system in the service enterprise a Volkswagen. Otherwise there is a danger that in case of need, inflatable pillows will not work properly.

System action

The system of inflatable pillows is designed in such a manner that it works in case of strong face-to-face collisions.

At system operation air bags are filled with working gas and, being inflated, are developed before the driver and the passenger.

The prevention

Between the passenger sitting on forward sitting and a place of placing of an inflatable pillow should not take places neither people, nor animal, various subjects. Besides, on doors no accessories, for example, coasters should be strengthened.

On hooks for clothes small and easy subjects of clothes should hang only. In pockets for small things there should not be heavy subjects or subjects with sharp sides.

It is impossible to put on any covers forward seats which are not recommended by a Volkswagen in no event. Otherwise at disclosing of lateral pillows of safety their protective action owing to application of not recommended covers in essential degree will be limited.

Each system of inflatable pillows works only once. If it has occurred, the system should be replaced.
